My Uncle John Is Awesome, Too

I promise not to start posting about my awesome family every two days – I am not Michael Bay – but my dad's older brother John sent me this yesterday:

I couldn't agree more with the title of your post on your dad's comment on Dick Cheney. Your dad is awesome and I've known him for a long time. I also couldn't agree more with his assessment of Dick Cheney. However, I couldn't help but notice that the date of your pronouncement of your dad's awesomeness was April 1!

I assure you, Uncle John, I meant no jest in my post; it can't be helped by dad chose Stupid Internet Joke Day to be so funny.

But I'm proud to be in the same awesome family as the both of you.

My Dad Is Awesome

Your disgust with Dick Cheney is widely shared. The other day he was quoted, when asked for a response to recent polls showing that a majority of Americans want our military out of Iraq now, as replying, "So?". Makes me more cynical that ever. Apparently I've been wrong all along--for some humans there IS no redeeming merit.

Happy Birthday Tracy!

Today is Tracy's birthday; even though we both have to work today, we have Kevin and Sarah visiting, so that makes today extra-special.

So, I guess it's March now. That happened fast.

Ashby turns eight months old today; hard to believe he's 2⁄3 of a year old already. Tracy's birthday is eight days away, so I'd better make sure her gifts arrive in time. And Ian's birthday is a mere 20 days off, but he and I have squared away his present.

Time sure flies, eh?

Radio Silence

I probably won't be posting much this weekend, as Tracy's parents are in town. To fill the void, I bring you this:

My father turns 59 today; I'd wish him a happy birthday over the phone, except he's in Guatemala, building stoves with Pat Manley and the Masons on a Mission organization.

Ian's In Town

Ian's here, and we've been having a good time. yesterday we swung by Santa Monica, check out the beach, and went to Father's Office.

Notice the smoke behind Ian— that's Malibu burning, where they're evacuated several houses, and many Pepperdine buildings. Here's a separate image of the smoke:

Postings are going to be sporadic for the next week or so— we're heading to Hawaii early tomorrow for a wedding, and I won't have a ton of free time. But I'll do my best to get somethings up, I promise.

It's a Boy!!!

Well, we knew it was a boy from the beginning, but he has arrived. Early Monday morning, at about 1:30 am, little Ashby Samuel Hayward was born in Brunswick, Maine, making his BirthDay July 2, 2007. Both of my parents (now grandparents!) were with Caitlin for the 12 hour labor, and Ian was out in the waiting room. Alas, Tracy and I are still stuck on the West Coast, but we'll be going home soon to both see the family and meet the newest addition.

Posting a little behind schedule; it's been a busy two weeks, and I had a one-two punch of flu followed by cold. Still working on the cold.

Anyway, here're some photos I took using PhotoBooth on my new laptop; lots of style and effects applied. My usual digital camera has been broken for a month or two now, so this is all I'e got for the moment. I'm thinking I might put some Christmas money towards a real digital SLR, most likely a Nikon to be compatible with the 35mm camera and lenses I already have.
